Quantum Sports Car 2+2

Since yesterday I’m the official owner of this car. It’s a Quantum Sports Cars 2+2, which is a British kit car based on the Ford Fiesta Mk2. The 2+2 stands for the seating arrangement, although the “+2” rear seats are a bit optimistic. The comparatively huge boot does give you enough space for your stuff when you’re travelling alone or with someone. Four adults is “technically” possible, in practice I’d say three is the comfortable-ish limit. I’m 1.90m tall, so my seat is nearly in the furthest back position leaving very little space for someone in the back.

I first learned of Quantum Sports Cars around four/five years ago from Lucas, a good friend of mine. His dad is/was(?) the Dutch importer for these. Around 450 of these were built. I’ve been on the lookout for one for around three years now. I almost bought a Saloon (the previous model, not a cabriolet) but it was missing a lot of parts and it had no paperwork, so getting it on the road legally was pretty much impossible. Sad, but I had to let that one go.

I came across this 2+2 around two years ago. I was talking on a Facebook group about the Saloon when Rolf, now a good friend, mentioned he had this 2+2. I drove down to Oosterhout, where I was taken on a drive in his Saloon and 2+2. After that he took me to see the red one. I instantly fell in love with it. It needs quite a lot of work, and I sadly don’t have a driveway or garage myself. It took me the better part of 2 years to find a spot where I could slowly work on this beaty. It will be going to a good friend in Soesterberg, where it can stay for at least 1-2 years.

As you can see it’s not in the best cosmetic shape. The paint is severely faded and is even flaking off at spots. The entire body is Fibreglass though, so no rust!

I will be taking it slow, one step at at time. I will post updates on the website whenever I feel like it 😛
